NIGHTLIFE and ENTERTAINMENT

Both Dubrovnik and Split have a thriving nightlife whilst, particularly in the summer, Hvar Town is great place to party with the Carpe Diem club a popular draw:

Dubrovnik’s city beach is lined by classy beach bars in which you can enjoy a cocktail or two (or three), whereas the whole of the old town comes alive at night with the sound of music and laughter emanating from its many atmospheric bars, restaurants and clubs.

That said, the Croatian coast is certainly no Ibiza and, although certain party-venues do attract international DJs and clubbers (such as at the Zrce beach on the island of Pag or at the Aurora nightclub near Vodice) it’s a more relaxed and sedate cultural scene on the whole. A Mediterranean café-culture of sipping coffee watching the world go by is very much in evidence, as is the traditional evening promenade up and down the seafront or riva.

With mild summer evenings to exploit, many towns host open-air classical music concerts throughout the summer. Perhaps the best place in Croatia to enjoy a concert is inside the majestic 5,000-capacity Roman Ampitheatre in Pula, which hosts concerts throughout the year ranging from classical performances, opera and jazz festivals to hard rock (Marilyn Manson!) and Croatian pop music.
