Dubrovnik 'is ideal holiday for history fans'
19 March 2010A tourism expert has spoken of the historical monuments, sights and buildings travellers to Dubrovnik can enjoy on a Croatian holiday.
Meri Matesic, director of the Croatian National Tourist Office for London, said there is "something for every preference" in the city.
And those interested in ancient structures and points of interest may find they are particularly well catered for.
Top of the list for Ms Matesic is the Dominican monastery and museum - constructed in the 14th century along with the city's famous walls.
She advised: "You must see the very interesting Franciscan monastery museum, with the inventory from the old Little brothers' pharmacy, dating to 1317, which is located in the cloister of the monastery."
Another tip for people on a Dubrovnik holiday is to head to the 16th-century Sponza Palace, where a unique mix of gothic and renaissance styles can be found.
Dubrovnik's old town, where the majority of its historical spots are located, became a Unesco World Heritage site in 1979.
