Accommodation in Istria can provide base to explore one of world's top regions
01 December 2010Culture seekers are likely to be at the front of the queue for accommodation in Istria in 2011, after the region was named as one of the best for the year by an industry publication.
Lonely Planet, which has compiled a list of the top ten must-see regions of the world, identified the land in northern Croatia as the second-most desirable destination.
While Istria is understandably famous for its idyllic coastal areas, the magazine advises people to head inland.
"For art, food, wine and an offbeat vibe, head to the interior, nicknamed 'Green Istria' – a bucolic dream of rolling hills, hilltop villages, rural B&Bs and farmhouse restaurants," it states.
On the menu is sure to be some of Croatia's culinary masterpieces, from fresh oysters and seafood to locally-produced wine.
From Istria, islands such as Krk are easily accessible, while there is even the possibility to venture across the border into Italy.
