Architecture 'makes Zadar a popular holiday destination'
31 August 2010One traveller has spoken of her impressions of the ancient town of Zadar, suggesting its architecture is making that part of Croatia's Dalmatian coast a popular place for a holiday.
Anne Kapranos, writing for Scotland on Sunday, says she spent a week touring the country, including time on the islands off its shore.
She highlights the architecture of Zadar, which has been influenced by Romans and Venetians, as a reason for its growing popularity among tourists.
Following a stay in accommodation in the Croatian resort, Ms Kapranos headed towards Split via the "beautiful" and "spectacular" Krka National Park.
"The scenery around this area is breathtaking - deep blue lakes and secluded coves glistened in the sun as we crossed the mountains," the author states.
Despite Zadar being a relatively small spot in which to enjoy a holiday, some British travellers may find it surprisingly easy to reach, with Ryanair offering budget flights to the town from the UK.
