August weekend sets Croatian tourism record
25 August 2009The interior ministry of Croatia has announced that the fourth week of August has broken all known year-on-year records for the country.
According to the Croatian Times, 1,191,000 individuals were welcomed into the country, representing a rise, not only on the same weekend of last year, but on the fourth weekend of August respectively throughout previous years.
Sunday was the busiest day with more than half a million travellers entering the popular tourism destination.
It was revealed recently that cars and buses are the most popular method of transport for holidaymakers entering Croatia, and the government figures for the record breaking weekend appear to support this, with 369 thousand vehicles crossing the border over the weekend.
More than 900 thousand of the entrants to the country were foreigners from countries all over the world.
Croatia is fast becoming one of the most fashionable destinations for the glitterati with music stars Jay-Z, Beyonce and Hollywood actor Mickey Rourke all visiting the country in recent weeks.
