Awards given to Croatia's beaches
29 June 2009Almost a month on from the Black Sea Association of National News Agencies reporting that bathing conditions are deemed "good" at 16 of the beaches along the Croatian coast and "satisfactory" at nine, there is more good news for the country.
There are now more reasons to head on a Croatia vacation because the Croatian Times has reported that the Balkan nation has been given 115 Blue Flags for beaches and 20 Blue Flags for marinas.
Coastal attractions had to meet various environmental and security criteria to achieve such an accolade, which indicates that many of Croatia's popular holiday spots are held in high regard by the authorities.
Despite being down ten per cent on last year due to economical issues and not ecological reasons, the Blue Flag total is a significant number.
Some 3,338 beaches and marinas across Europe, North Africa and beyond have been presented with Blue Flags this year.
