Basketball arenas to open in Croatia
02 October 2008Three new basketball arenas are being created in Croatia and Slovenia to improve the experience for fans and players.
Of the new venues, one has already been completed, another half built and a third is at the design stage, the Euroleague Basketball website reports.
Jordi Bertomeu, chief executive officer of the organisation, states the new stadiums will offer more seating in "spectacular new settings".
He said: "Everyone recognises the great potential in our sport now, which is why governments, investors, clubs and sponsors are putting their faith in these ambitious projects."
One new arena is set for Zagreb, which will to seat 15,400 and open early next year.
Mr Bertomeu visited the new venues, including the Zadar arena which will be the new home for the KK Zadar team.
The third of the new stadia is set to bebuilt in Split, which will have 12,500 seats for fans.
Croatia's national basketball team came sixth in the recent Beijing Olympics.
