Bill Gates 'spends holidays in Croatia'

Microsoft owner and second-richest man in the world Bill Gates is a regular visitor to Croatia for holidays.

After first visiting the country in 2004, the billionaire has decided to return on numerous occasions, the Croatian Times reports Vecernji List as stating.

Gates is said to stay in the small town of Skradin, about 17 kilometres from Sibenik, on the Dalmatian coast just north of Split.

The privacy of Skradin could be what lures the businessman and his family to the town, as it has only 3,800 inhabitants.

It also borders the entrance to the Krka National Park, the newspaper explains, which may be ideal if Gates is a nature lover or enthusiastic about scenic walks.

Meri Matesic, director at the Croatia National Tourist Board in London, recently said Croatia is popular with celebrities seeking to get away from hectic lifestyles elsewhere.

She noted the likes of Michael Schumacher and Gerard Butler as among those who have stayed in accommodation in Croatia.
