Book Croatia holidays for "spectacular food, wine, beaches and history"

The benefits of taking a holiday in Croatia could not have been put any clearer than by one publication which says the country offers "spectacular food, wine, beaches and history".

Gamut News notes the Balkan nation has been popular with European tourists for many years and is now starting to capture the imaginations of American travellers.

According to the article, there are four "must-see locations" in Croatia, the first of which is the ancient city of Dubrovnik – arguably the country's premier resort.

The spot is renowned across the world for its "terrific food" and "abundant history", with much of the former based on catches from the crystal-clear waters of the Adriatic.

Other destinations holidaymakers are advised to head to include Hvar, an island off the Dalmatian coast, as well as the beautiful Plitvice Lakes National Park and National Park Brijuni.

Andrew Eames, writing for the Independent, this week described the town of Opatija as the "Nice of the Croatian Riviera".
