Book Croatian villas for special occasions
08 February 2011Travellers may want to book Croatian villas for special occasions this year and make their way to the country for March 6th, the day a large traditional parade is being held.
Mirna Bender of the Croatian Tourism Office told Deutsche Presse-Agentur that the atmosphere in the harbour city of Rijeka - where the Adriatic's largest carnival festivities apparently take place - tends to be more relaxed than that of Germany, for example, as "there are a lot fewer drunk people here than in Cologne".
Jet-setters will be able to mingle with the 250,000 revellers expected to take to the streets this year and watch as a group of bell-ringers sporting animal masks make their way through the metropolis.
As legend has it, these masks are used to chase away evil forces, while heralding the spring and celebrating the birth of new life.
Those currently in the region might enjoy the Samobor Carnival, running from February 13th to the 24th, as confirmed by the Croatian National Tourist Board.
