Book accommodation in Croatia ahead of Asparagus Festival
31 January 2011Those with a love of asparagus may be first in line to book accommodation in Croatia to coincide with an upcoming event centred on the food.
The Asparagus Festival will take place on the slopes of Ucka mountain, close to Lovran, in April, notes the Croatian National Tourist Board.
It is held every year and is designed to celebrate the fine produce of the region, which boasts the perfect conditions for asparagus to grow.
Indeed, the organisation suggests the combination of the sea air with mountain air is behind the distinct and special taste of asparagus from the area.
Asparagus are compared to mushrooms in terms of the role they play in Croatian cuisine, as they are used in many dishes to add flavour.
Those who travel to Croatia to visit the festival can try the local delicacy of friatta, which is prepared by cooking asparagus in salted water and sauteing it with prosciutto and adding eggs.
Another event for holidaymakers to put in their diaries is Samobor Carnival, which is due to start on February 13th.
