Border issues 'should not put people off adding Dubrovnik to Croatia holiday'
11 January 2011People who are planning a holiday in Croatia have been advised not to allow the fact a border must be crossed to reach Dubrovnik to put them off visiting the city.
Indeed, an article on Suite101.com suggests the checkpoints as the road from Split briefly ventures into Bosnian territory are some of the "softest" in Europe.
The piece notes it is presumed the majority of traffic is simply heading straight on to enjoy the delights of the famous resort in the deep south of Croatia.
Approximately 23 km of the Dalmatian coast belongs to Bosnia in order to give the country some access to the sea.
Visiting the main body of Croatia – where famous cities such as Split and Zagreb are located – as well as the 'Jewel of the Adriatic', as Dubrovnik is often referred to, may be a must for many travellers.
Alternatively, tourists can transport themselves by water, with both Split and Dubrovnik boasting large ferry terminals.
