13 March 2009A young British boxer has won acclaim in Croatia after competing in a national championship, it has been reported.
Nineteen-year-old Ian Weaver, from Bournemouth, was awarded the best prospect of the tournament award following a number of knockout performances in Zagreb, according to the Daily Echo.
After taking down the experienced Croat Ahmeti on his home soil, Weaver slipped to defeat against Serbia's Stankovic in the final.
He told the Daily Echo: "It was a good experience to be in Croatia and boxing every day.
"My most pleasing performance was against the Croatian, who is 30 and has had more than 120 bouts."
Weaver added that while it was disappointing to lose the final, the event had proved that he could "compete successfully".
