British tourists 'packing their own teabags'

Holidaymakers from the UK who are heading to foreign countries such as Croatia are still finding themselves in need of a traditional cup of tea.

According to a survey by Asda, nearly half of all British leisure travellers put teabags in their suitcase ahead of any overseas excursion.

This trend was found to be particularly widespread in places such as Norfolk and Suffolk, with almost two-thirds of people from this area putting teabags in with their luggage.

James Maxton, spokesman for Asda, commented: "Although the days of British holidaymakers wearing socks with sandals and kiss-me-quick hats are long gone, our obsession with getting a decent cup of tea abroad remains."

The survey also showed that coffee, mustard and ketchup are also popular items to pack, along with Marmite, pork pies and pickle.

This comes after Abta - The Travel Association predicted that there will be many late holiday bookings this year, as the recession in the UK is making people reluctant to pay for trips abroad too early.
