British university helps construct engineering centre in Croatia
17 September 2009Croatia now has a new centre of excellence in engineering and robotics thanks to a British university.
The University of the West of England and the European Union joined forces to create the new centre, which has been constructed in the north-east of the country.
Named the Centre of Mechatronics, Karolvac (CMK), it will help provide companies in the region with consultancy and strategic development.
Farid Dailami, project leader of the team, said: "The Centre has already generated significant interest in Karlovac and has benefitted from funding contributions and commercial contracts of around 15 million."
Project director John Lanham said that the regional economy would be "strengthened" by the construction of the CMK.
Karlovac is a great place for holidaymakers to visit, with sites including the Zorin dom theatre and the reconstructed Orthodox church in the city centre.
It also has a large number of green spaces, giving it its nickname - 'the city of parks'.
