Carnival time for Dubrovnik arrives
06 January 2009A party atmosphere will soon engulf Croatia's historical city of Dubrovnik, as revellers descend from all over Europe for carnival season.
Traditionally, the festivities in Dubrovnik begin with a bang on New Year's Eve and continue all the way to the arrival of spring in late February.
Attractions at the city during festival season include side-splitting live satirical performances and mask-wearing events, where courtesans from across the continent don weird and wonderful examples of headgear.
The organisers of the event commented: "The merry time of carnival and putting on masks begins after New Year's time and ends with the arrival of spring.
"Experience the special atmosphere of the Dubrovnik carnival festivities characteristics of jokes, laughter, merriment, joy, mime and acerbic mockery."
The Four Dubrovnik Carnival Days - where the festivities climax and come to an end - occur in the city's Fort Revelin and Stradun from February 21st to 24th.
