Charm of Dubrovnik 'easier to take in during autumn'
22 September 2010Travelling to Dubrovnik during the autumn months is perhaps a wiser decision than heading to Croatia's premier destination in the summer.
George Webster, writing a piece for CNN, says the city's "distinctive charm" is certainly easier to experience from September as the large crowds that gather in July and August have largely disappeared.
"With its baroque churches, ornate palaces and winding cobbled streets, this UNESCO World Heritage site is considered to be one of the most exquisite historical cities in Europe," he states.
But visiting in the midst of the annual holiday season may be considered by many to be more stressful than a trip in September or October.
At this time, the nation's warm and pleasant climate is still providing long and sunny days, but attractions can be explored more freely.
Mr Webster goes on to suggest a walk along the city's ancient walls as the must-do activity while on holiday in Dubrovnik, stating the two-kilometre stroll offers picturesque views.
Dubrovnik is located in the south of Croatia and, in the 2001 census, was said to have a population of about 44,000.
