Classical concert 'is a cultural highlight of holidays in Croatia'
22 March 2011Culture vultures can find plenty to satisfy their appetite for high-class events and elegant surroundings on a holiday in Croatia.
Indeed, one date that is already attracting attention among such-minded tourists is April 23rd, when a classical concert comes to the town of Opatija.
Julia Warren, previewing the event for the Daily Telegraph, said it is part of the Festival Kvarner and will feature the music of Mozart, Bartok and Dvorak.
It is to be held in the Crystal Ballroom at the Hotel Kvarner and will include performances by a string of acclaimed Austrian musicians.
Opatija itself was once described by those in the Austro-Hungarian empire as the "Nice of the Adriatic" and its beauty and history resonates through every pore.
Festival Kvarner is the idea of Michael Fendre, who has organised a series of celebrations and events in the region for spring.
Dubrovnik is also gearing up to host a number of musical dates in the coming weeks, such as the special Lent Concert on April 9th.
