Could travellers to Croatia boost country's economy?

The number of people travelling to Croatia for city breaks, beach holidays and stays in luxury villas could help the country's economy to prosper in 2011.

According to the latest United Nations World Economic Situation and Progress report, detailed by the Croatian Times following an article by Business, the Balkan nation is due a good financial year.

It suggests its economy will grow by 1.6 per cent over the next 12 months, before recording a 2.7 per cent surge in 2012.

Croatia's success is predicted to be part of a positive performance by the whole south-east Europe region, with Bosnia, Montenegro and Serbia among other nations due to succeed, the news source reports.

One advantage Croatia may have as it bids to grow its economy is its tourism market, with holidays in Dubrovnik, Split, Zagreb and many other spots popular with jet-setters.

Croatia's reputation as a warm spot during winter may aid its bid to bring in tourism revenue all year round.
