Croatia a 'bargain destination' for UK holidaymakers

With recent changes in currency rates pricing many British holidaymakers out of the Eurozone countries, Croatia has emerged as one of the best options for a bargain break.

That is according to this year's Holiday Costs Barometer from Post Office Travel Services, which reveals that, when everything is factored in, a break to the Adriatic needn't break the bank.

Indeed, favourable exchange rates make a holiday to Croatia more affordable than a similar break to Thailand, South Africa or Egypt, research carried out for the report revealed, while tourists who know where to look are also able to get a better bargain than they initially anticipated.

In contrast to the affordable restaurants in cities such as Zagreb or Split, Sarah Munro, Post Office head of travel services, commented: "In Thailand we have tracked a 68.5 per cent jump, in the USA meals increased by almost 49 per cent and even in Turkey, one of our best buys, they have gone up by over one third."

Just last month, Croatian prime minister Ivo Sanader predicted that his country will be ready to join the European Union within two years, with this likely to further boost the tourism sector.
