Croatia a 'stunning' choice for sailing trips
19 February 2008Croatia has been deemed one of the world's "fastest growing" yachting locations.
According to Carefree Yacht Charters, the country's Dalmatian region is ideal for island hopping, with "fascinating seaports" such as Dubrovnik, Split and Trogir and the "pretty isles" of Mljet, Hvar and Korcula.
"Boasting over 3,000 miles of Adriatic coastline and over 1,000 islands, Croatia is often regarded as one of the most stunning parts of Europe, and has been recently touted as the next Riviera," said a spokesperson for the yachting specialist.
She added that Croatia combines all the ingredients of "an ideal sailing vacation", including intriguing islands, warm waters, consistent sailing winds and a "rugged" coastline.
With the eastern European country's yacht charter season generally running from May through September, peak months include July and August because of their optimum weather and abundant tourist numbers.
However, Carefree's representative noted that the off-season months of June and September are also favoured by visitors keen to enjoy off-season rates and fewer crowds.
Next month, the Dalmatian island of Ugljanu will open Marina Preko, which has been touted as another "must" for sailing enthusiasts.
