Croatia adds to surge in 'seagoing vacations'

Europe's popularity as a cruise destination is surging as a result of Croatia's booming tourist trade, according to reports.

In its outlook for the year ahead, Windstar Cruises highlighted the addition of two Adriatic itineraries to its summer offerings.

The company verified the establishment of Croatia's islands as firm favourites, with tours taking in Pula, Rijeka, Zadar, Split and Korcula, as well as Ploce, Hvar, Sibenik and Rab.

"As the cruise industry continues its global expansion, nowhere are seagoing vacations growing at a faster rate than in Europe," remarked Terry Dale, president of Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA).

He added that travellers are increasingly discovering the eastern European delights on offer in what are "some of the most famous cities and landmarks in the world".

Mr Dale predicted that US holidaymakers' enthusiasm for the Adriatic will not wane as the year goes on, and instead they will continue to choose voyages that take in the eastern Mediterranean.

Commentators have noted that another "one to watch" in the Croatian travel, tourism and villa rental arenas is historic Sibenik, situated on the country's south-west coast. ADNFCR-1197-ID-18478090-ADNFCR
