Croatia beats Britain for property

The Croatian property market is in a significantly more stable condition than its British counterpart, it has been claimed.

From February, foreign nationals have had the same rights as Croatians to purchase housing in the Adriatic paradise, whereas it had previously involved a number of bureaucratic processes.

Director of the Croatian National Tourist Board for the UK and Ireland, Meri Matesic, has suggested that this could see an influx of new investment into the country.

Ms Matesic said: "They don't have to ask any special permission or [go] through the minister of foreign affairs as they had to previously.

"You don't have to register any company in Croatia or anything. You can simply come and say: 'I want to buy this house' and you can register it in your name."

The Croatian National Bureau of Statistics reported last year that the average price of property in the country was £1,500 per square metre.
