Croatia beats off rivals in tourism stakes
05 March 2009Croatia has come in ahead of a number of other popular locations in a major tourism study.
According to the latest World Economic Forum Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Report, the south-east European hotspot is in the top 35 best holiday destinations on the planet.
Coming above tourist favourites such as Turkey, Greece and Thailand, the result illustrates the lure of Croatia to visitors from all parts of the world.
The head of the national competitiveness council, Darko Marinac, told the Croatian Times that the country needed to consider how to boost its value for money to keep up its impressive flow of visitors.
"Croatia needs to raise the quality of the domestic tourism product in order to balance value and price," he commented.
Figures published by the Croatian Bureau of Statistics last month revealed that the number of people visiting the country increased by one per cent in 2008.
