Croatia could host a million tourists in September

The growing popularity of Croatia as a tourism hotspot has been confirmed this year by the record amount of visitors to the country due to the recession.

This has left hotel directors to predict that more than one million holidaymakers could be set to travel to the nation in September, according to the Croatian Times.

Croatia was visited by a similar amount of people last year but fears for tourism due to the worldwide economic downturn led many to believe that numbers would be down this year.

However, after a successful summer for Croatia, it is now expected that visitor numbers could even be up year-on-year this month, according to the newspaper.

Slobodna Dalmacija, a daily newspaper, has reported that preliminary bookings for hotels are looking healthy for the month, as reported by the Crotian Times.

One of the more diverse offerings for tourists heading to Croatia this summer is the Porecki Delfin swimming marathon.

The tenth annual event in the city of Porec offers swimming fans the opportunity to take part in a 1,500, 3,000 or 5,000 metre sea swim.
