Croatia holiday 'most popular with Germans'
12 May 2010Germans have been named as the world's biggest travellers, with some 23 per cent of Croatia's tourist industry made up of visitors from the country.
According to figures released by the World Tourism Organisation (WTO) and reported by the Croatian Times, Germans spend 63.7 billion (£54.3 billion) on travel across the globe, with 1.5 billion of that in Croatia.
Other nations to make up the top four are the USA, the UK and China - the population of which may all take a significant number of holidays on the Dalmatian coast in Croatia.
The newspaper says the WTO notes a recovery in the tourism market, with more people inclined to book a break now the recession appears to have passed.
Popular spots on the Croatian coast for a summer holiday are likely to include the historic Dubrovnik and fashionable Split.
A conference in Zagreb last year revealed demand for Croatia holidays has maintained steady through the economic downturn.
