Croatia holidays 'still open to pregnant women'
12 May 2011Pregnant women have been advised they can still travel overseas, for purposes such as holidays in Croatia.
Dr Lucy Chappell, clinical senior lecturer in Maternal and Foetal Medicine and honorary consultant in Obstetrics from the division of Woman's Health at Kings College London, told the British Medical Journal Group's podcast that ladies should be aware of the risks but there is no reason to be too conservative.
Indeed, she noted that for a small percentage of mums-to-be, travel is not a good option, but for the majority it can still be enjoyed with no side effects.
"It is a question of considering the risks sensibly and trying to minimise them by choosing the safest time to travel, which is usually in the second trimester," Ms Chappell stated.
Skyscanner recently named Croatia as one of the UK's favourite holiday destinations in its recent release of search results for breaks over the summer.
