Croatia 'is popular with a host of celebrities'

Travelling to Croatia is a popular choice for a holiday among the world's most famous celebrities - so much so that many have even invested in property there to ensure regular visits.

Meri Matesic, director of the Croatian National Tourist Office, responding to the recent speculation that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were set to take a break in the country, said several stars live in the area.

One is Michael Schumacher, the seven-time Formula 1 World Champion, who returned to the sport with Mercedes this season three years after retiring.

According to Ms Matesic, he owns a house in the Istrian region, popular for its natural beauty and picturesque peninsula.

Croatia is also home to an abundance of English lords - many of whom also opt for Istria.

"People are just coming there because they feel comfortable and pleasant in that area," says the travel expert.

Last summer, Beyonce and Jay-Z enjoyed a Croatia holiday on the Adriatic coast.
