Croatia is 'top ranking' according to report

Croatia has been successful in implementing the Lisbon strategy and is ranked first out of the non-European Union (EU) countries taking part, according to a report.

In the overall evaluation the country was placed ahead of Romania, Poland and Bulgaria in the World Economic Forum report, according to the National Competiveness Council.

The strategy assesses the performance of the 27 existing EU members and the competitive performance of the EU candidates and potential candidate countries.

Croatia was ranked top overall out of 16 non-EU members and also came out top in the categories for information society and network industries.

The country came second in the financial services and sustainable development groups and third in the development of innovation and research category.

In recent news, the biggest food group in Croatia said its nine-month net profit increased by 52 per cent compared to the same period a year ago.

Podravka said its net profit had risen to £5.39 million, while its operating profit rose 26 per cent to £12.92 million, according to Reuters.
