Croatia moves up IRB rankings
29 October 2008Rugby fans may be interested to know Croatia has moved up the International Rugby Board (IRB) World Rankings with their recent victories in the European Nations Cup.
The IRB reports this means the country has scaled the ladder by one, taking it up to 43rd position.
It was announced after the team defeated Malta at the Nations Cup Division 2B qualifier on October 25th, their third consecutive win over the island country.
The final result was 16-18 points after the Croats scored a penalty in the last few minutes.
Croatia was described by the Times of Malta as a "strong side", while Damien Neill, manager of the Malta team, told the Sunday Times his boys had had "very poor" possession and lost "several good openings" to have the chance to finish their opposing side off.
Neill told the publication: "We must forget about this match and start thinking on Sweden."
Croatia is joined by Sweden who moved up the rankings to 37th after they came out on top over Latvia.
