Croatia name final squad for European Championships
29 May 2008Anas Sharbini and Manuel Pamic have been left out of the Croatian football squad for this summer's European Championships after the final 23 were named.
The two players will still travel with their teammates to Austria and Switzerland to take part in training and there is the possibility one or both of the players could gain a reprieve if an injured player needs replaced.
Coach Slaven Bilic told Reuters the squad has been picked on current form and not on the basis of performances in the qualifying campaign.
He said there are no current injuries within the final list and expressed hope replacements will not need to be made.
Bilic added: "Sharbini and Pamic are young prospects and they will come with us because they can fill in positions where we might have problems during the tournament."
Croatia have been grouped with Austria, Germany and Poland for the championships and kick-off with a clash against the co-hosts on June 8th.
