Croatia tipped as a hot city break for 2008
19 December 2007Top city break destinations for 2008 will include Dubrovnik and that is likely to lead to the increasing popularity of a holiday in Croatia, according to the latest review of holiday trends.
In 2007, holidaymakers favoured traditional city breaks such as New York, Amsterdam and Paris but next year low-cost flight routes will open up previously less-explored cities.
"Destinations that in 2008 might be a city break, may in 2009 or beyond become week or fortnight long holiday destinations, if not holiday home locations for some potential investors," said managing director Ross Elder, managing director of holidaylettings.co.uk, which conducted the survey.
"The last ten years in Spain or the current situation in Croatia are examples of destinations where visitors are comfortable travelling to, are well provided for as tourists, where they can source affordable flights to and where potential for capital gains appreciation will entice investors," he added.
The Holiday Home Hotspots Review also shows that people enquiring about trips to destinations such as Croatia look to travel in the 'shoulder' seasons of March, April, October, and November, when there are less tourists and prices are lower.
The survey found that 38 per cent of people take up to two short breaks of three to five nights every year, as well as their main holiday.
