Croatia to celebrate 100 years of Esperanto
03 November 2008An event to celebrate 100 years of the language of Esperanto in Croatia is being staged in Zagreb on October 7th and 8th, it has been reported.
The Croatian Esperanto Alliance and the social sciences department at the University of Zagreb have organised the event, according to the Croatian Times.
A meeting to be held, called Esperanto and Croatian Cultural Identity, will involve 30 experts from Croatia and other countries.
They will talk about their achievements, the history of Esperanto in the country and its role in promoting Croatian art and culture abroad, the newspaper says.
According to the organisers, the event will be a chance to inform the public about the country's cultural identity on a scientific level.
The patron of the meeting will be Croatia's president Stjepan Mesic.
In recent news, a cultural centre representing the Rusyn and Ukrainian minority in the country has been given the go-ahead to be built, the Croatian Times reported.
