Croatia to host 'most beautiful Camellia' award
12 March 2009Croatia is set to host a competition to determine the Adriatic's most beautiful camellia, it has been revealed.
As reported by the website Opatija.net, residents along the country's coast will be fighting it out for the revered prize this month.
Organised by the fan club Ignio Scarpa, the event is open to all those who live along the Opatija Riviera, which stretches all the way from Brsec to Volosko.
Once the victor of the competition has been decided, the winning camellia will be put on display at the resort's Juraj Sporer art pavilion from March 21st to 23rd.
Not only beautiful, the colourful flower is also the recognised symbol of tourism for Opatija and the surrounding areas.
The website recently noted that March is Opatija's health and wellbeing month, with many of the town's spas offering reductions of as much as 50 per cent.
