Croatia to relax housing regulations
18 September 2008European Union (EU) citizens will have the same rights to buy a property in Croatia as nationals of the country when a change in legislation comes into force on February 1st 2009, it has been revealed.
Property Wire reports the removal of the restrictions will make home buying in the Balkan state far easier for those in the 27-nation block.
Domestic regulations are also set to be "harmonised" with the EU ahead of Croatia's anticipated accession to the union in the near future.
Charlie Winand, a spokesman for property firm Cushman and Wakefield's international projects department, said the central Dalmatia is proving especially popular with buyers.
He added: "The island of Brac is particularly appealing, being the largest of Croatia's central Dalmatian islands, with a number of facilities and amenities and less than an hour's ferry ride to Split."
Dan Johnson, managing director of property website TheMoveChannel.com, recently said nearby Dubrovnik is also set to perform well, despite the current economic climate.
