Croatia up for Golden Flower of Europe award

A popular tourist resort in Croatia has been nominated for the prestigious Golden Flower of Europe award.

The coastal town of Mali Losinj was this week proclaimed as the Balkan nation's official entry for the annual prize, which is organised by the Belgian Entente Florale Europe organisation.

In total, 24 locations from 12 different countries across the continent have been nominated for the accolade, whose winner will be announced later this year in Cardiff.

Prior to that, judges from each of the other competing countries will visit Mali Losinj for inspection in June.

Among the criteria the town will be assessed on are green spaces, plant life, ecological development and environmental education.

The competition was inaugurated more than 25 years ago, when the only competing countries were the UK and France.

Holidaymakers planning to visit Croatia this summer will be pleased to know that Ryanair is set to announce a raft of new routes to popular tourist destinations, the Croatian Times recently reported.
