Croatian and Irish champions 'get ready for clash'

Croatian football league champions Dinamo Zagreb FC start their European champions league campaign against Linfield in Northern Ireland tomorrow night.

Steve Beacom, writing for the Belfast Telegraph, claims the Croatian visitors are strong favourites for the first qualifying round, first leg tie.

He says Croatian football is on a high, despite quarter-final elimination to Turkey at the European championships, and suggests there is a new-found confidence in the game in the country which will likely be manifest by the Dinamo Zagreb side in Belfast.

A tough evening is predicted for Linfield, and perhaps just as rough a ride for some of Europe's better known names in the final qualifying round should Dinamo defeat Northern Ireland's champions.

The return leg takes place in the Makismir stadium in Zagreb next Wednesday, which Mr Beacom states will be "intimidating" for Linfield.

Supporters making their way to the game in Croatia can choose to fly direct from Belfast to Budapest in nearby Hungary or to Dubrovnik via Dublin airport in the Republic of Ireland.
