Croatian athletes win in karate
17 November 2008Croatian athletes brought medals home to the country this week, after winning in the World Karate Championship.
Danil Domdjoni became the world champion in the under 60 kilos group at the competition which was held in Tokyo, Japan, adding to his previous European title.
Ema Ancic, also from Croatia, won bronze in the absolute category after beating Verpasen from the Netherlands Antilles in repesage.
Domdjoni was victorious against Kazakhstani Assadilov in the final, having previously been crowned best athlete in Zadar county and Biograd.
The athlete's coach told Radio Biograd: "We have succeeded in our dreams, me as a coach, and he pulled through. I congratulate him and his parents for letting him train," Javno.com reports.
Russia, the US, Azerbajan and Japan were also winners in the competition.
Domdjoni won in the Grand Prix last year when it was held in Croatia, clinching the kumite male 60 kg and kumite male open titles, achieving 18 and 12 points respectively.
