Croatian holiday in Kvarner region 'is most historic'
15 February 2010Taking a Croatian holiday in the Kvarner region offers the most historic and cultural experience in the country, according to the Croatian National Tourist Board.
Kvarner has been ruled by Croatians longer than any other Balkan region, meaning many of its castles, forts and historic buildings date back the furthest.
It also offers travellers to Croatia immaculate beaches and crystal-clear waters - which, when combined with the country's regular supply of sunshine, make for ideal sunbathing conditions.
The board states: "The additional specific feature of Kvarner, particularly of its coastal areas, is its very strong carnival tradition."
Another favourite spot for tourists in Kvarner is the Opatija Riviera, which is thought to be one of the world's first sea bathing locations.
Croatian holidaymakers seeking the best of the region's cultural highlights may wish to head to Rijeka, the ancient city in Croatia's far north.
Rijeka Carnival has been running for approximately a month and comes to an end this Wednesday (February 17th).
