Croatian holiday on Opatija Riviera 'is perfect Valentine's gift'

Booking a Croatian villa in the Opatija Riviera for a girlfriend as a Valentine's present is one of the top ways to her heart, says the Croatian National Tourism Board.

The area "is now one of Croatia's foremost spa centres," the board states, with ladies from across the world heading to the area for health and wellness treatments.

Combining the natural beauty of the Riviera with a soothing massage or spell in a sauna on a Croatian holiday is likely to be a seasonal winner with any girl.

The good news for romantic men is that the cost of staying in the region is roughly 30 per cent cheaper than in neighbouring Italy, according to the tourism board.

When couples can tear themselves away from the spas, the 12 km promenade provides a relaxing and scenic alternative.

Last year ParamAyu, a development company, was given permission to build a new spa in Opatija.
