Croatian holidays up despite downturn

Holidays in Croatia remain popular despite the onset of recession around much of Europe, it has been reported.

As written in the Belfast Telegraph, people are increasingly resolute in their determination to holiday overseas, with Croatia being one of their top destinations.

One major holiday-booking agent in Northern Ireland, Knock Travel, has found that it is receiving more and more enquiries regarding Croatia, which has the advantage of being outside the current eurozone.

Doreen McKenzie, who is also a local spokeswoman for the Association of British Travel Agents, told the Belfast Telegraph: "People are now treating a holiday as a necessity and not as a luxury.

"It gives people something to think about during the winter."

Visitors to Croatia over the winter should consider a trip to Dalmatia, which is home to a number of historical and cultural destinations such as Dubrovnik, the Kornati archipelago and Paklenica karst river.
