Croatian pizza idea yields 'heavenly' results
15 February 2008A Mediterranean cuisine enthusiast has put her gastronomic experience in Croatia to innovative use.
Sharman Hnatiuk told Canadian publication Vue Weekly that when she returned from her holiday, she wanted to share her eastern European insight with some friends - who happened to own a pizza restaurant.
After trying out her skills on a straightforward dish, she sought to treat her pals to a "heavenly" taste picked up across the Adriatic.
"Next in line for the tasting was pizza inspired by a pasta dish I had on an island in Croatia," she remarked.
Ms Hnatiuk added: "It was the most heavenly gnocchi, in a gorgonzola cream sauce with prawns and prosciutto."
She echoed the views of many individuals who have sampled Croatia's food-based delights when she praised the inclusion of seafood in an otherwise "un-fishy" item.
"Personally, I loved both the flavour combination and the novelty of the pizza: it would be the only pizza in the place with prawns," she concluded.
One of Croatia's most popular culinary attractions is the "Goranski gastro vikend", held every year in the town of Delnice, which can be found in Gorski kotar, a mountainous region between Karlovac and Rijeka.
