Croatian tourism minister 'satisfied'
30 July 2009The numbers of holidaymakers opting to travel to Croatia has left the country's tourism minister Damir Bajs satisfied.
Croatia has attracted more visitors than many other Mediterranean countries in the current economic climate and 85,000 more last weekend compared with the same period last year.
Balkaninsight.com reported that the Croatian travel officiary noted that the country's tourism industry will be given a further boost by the Italian vacation period in August and although he realises the recession is affecting tourism, he would work to make the decline as "small as possible".
According to the Croatian ministry of interior the popular tourist destination pulled in more than 242,000 tourists over the last weekend in July, which represents a year-on-year rise of 7,000 people, the Croatian Times reports.
Croatia is one of the top destinations for those looking to rent a villa this summer, with the Post Office Beach Barometer naming it as one of the best value travel hotspots in Europe.
