Croatian town in running for EDEN

Croatia will have a participant in the European Destination of Excellence (EDEN), according to a source.

Djurdjevac will represent the nation in the competition which is held in France between September 18th and 19th, reports Financnik.sk.

The website states the town encourages tourists to travel to Croatia through its sporting and cultural attractions.

EDEN claims the scheme aims to uncover "the diversity of rich European heritage and point out developing, less visited tourist destinations".

Part of the award's criteria is that the area must provide events such as festivals and exhibitions which are themed and focused around local heritage.

Djurdjevac was chosen ahead of 26 other candidates to represent the country.

Meanwhile, Croatia has recently been described by a leading property publication as having "outstanding beauty and a fantastic coastline".

Homes Overseas has produced a guide to the country, naming areas such as Dubrovnik, Split, Hvar and Brac as main attractions.
