Croatian visitors 'staying longer'

It would seem that those who head to Croatia on holiday appear to enjoy their accommodation - as visitors are staying in the country for longer.

Tourism minister Damir Bajs has spoken today about how people are taking lengthier Croatia travel trips in 2009, compared to previous years.

Mr Bajs was generally confident about the tourism figures in the Balkan nation, suggesting to Reuters that guest numbers are at "very acceptable levels".

With tourism accounting for close to 20 per cent of Croatia's gross domestic product, it is important that people continue to visit the country.

Beautiful beaches, historic sights and traditionally hot weather throughout the summer mean that it is a popular choice among European holidaymakers.

Commenting on the latest data, Mr Bajs said: "We had expected a drop and for the moment it is ... something we can live with. However, key summer months are still ahead of us and the number of last-minute arrivals will determine a lot."
