Croatia's Dalmatian coast growing in popularity with holidaymakers
16 September 2010The Adriatic shoreline, which runs the length of Croatia, has enjoyed a surge in the number of people visiting it this year.
New figures released by the Central Bureau of Statistics and reported by the Croatian Times show 4.95 million foreign tourists headed to the region during the first seven months of the year.
That is up by more than six per cent on 2009 levels, while travellers to Croatia in general were up by 4.1 per cent.
July was by some way the busiest month included in the data, with almost half of visitors arriving in Croatia at that time, the statistics illustrate.
The most overnight stays in the country were taken by Germans, who accounted for 19.8 per cent of the total, followed by Slovenians with 13.7 per cent.
Travel Biz Monitor this week reported members of the Croatian National Tourist Board are currently in India to present the advantages of a holiday in Croatia to locals.
