Croatia's Plitvice Lakes National Park has great 2009
15 September 2009The last year has been a great success for the Plitvice Lakes National Park in Croatia.
A total of 801,000 people have travelled to the lakes so far in 2009, with 10,000 visiting every day in August, it has been reported.
According to the Croatian Times, Branislav Sutic, national park chief, said: "Despite the complicated economic situations and the financial crisis, we have had 20 per cent more profit in the first eight months of 2009 compared to the same period last year."
The park, which is a Unesco World Heritage site, is one of Croatia's most popular tourist destinations and features some breathtaking scenery.
It boasts waterfalls, lakes and a variety of woodland creatures including deer, wolves and boars.
Plitvice Lakes is open daily all year round and there is an entrance fee to help assist with the park's upkeep.
For visitors planning a trip to the park, it is located halfway between Zagreb and Zadar.
