Crowds gather to see swans in Zagreb winter wonderland
09 January 2009Eager crowds gathered around a frosted lake in Zagreb to catch a glimpse of 20 beautiful white swans this week, it has been reported.
Writing for Javno, Karmen Horvat noted that the city's Lake Bundek played host to a winter wonderland which saw majestic swans flock to the scene.
Ms Horvat wrote: "Seeing how both the younger and older generations love the snow, apart from throwing snow balls and sledging, many will be delighted with the scene from Zagreb's Lake Bundek, where swans blend in with the background."
She added that although the temperature in the Croatian capital frequently dips below the minus ten degrees Celsius mark, there was "no room for panic", as the swans were kept warm by their abundance of feathers and fat.
The lowest-ever temperature in Zagreb was recorded in February 1956, when arctic winter conditions saw thermometers fall past minus 27 degrees Celsius.
