Culture centre to be built in Vukovar
23 October 2008A cultural centre representing the Rusyn and Ukrainian minority in Croatia has been given the go-ahead to be built, it has been reported.
The centre will be constructed on city land in Vukovar on the Council of Europe Street, the Croatian Times reports.
An agreement was signed between the Rusyn Ukrainian Alliance head Slavko Burda and Vukovar mayor Zdenka Buljan earlier this week.
It is expected the construction of the centre, which will feature a hall, museum and exhibition space, will begin next year and will cost £648,000, the source says.
Mr Burda said 3,000 of the 5,000 members of the Rusyn and Ukrainian minority live in the Vukovar-Srijem county.
In other cultural news, a national film centre in Croatia is set to join the European Union's network of film promoters.
The Croatian Audiovisual Centre in Zagreb will join Serbia's Film Centre as one of the two newest members of the European Film Promotion.
