Dog-sledding world cup in Slovenia
07 December 2007February will see Slovenia host one of the world's most interesting sporting events - the Europa and World Cup Dog-Sledding Races.
Over 1,000 dogs, including Siberian and Alaskan huskies, and 200 sleigh drivers (mushers) will battle for supremacy over a 22 kilometre circuit.
The races are held in a beautiful natural amphitheatre on the Slovenian-Italian border, beginning in the town of Tarvisio and ending in Ratece-Kranjska Gora.
Set in the Fusine Lakes Plains at the foot of Mt Mangart, this is a great event to visit on your holiday in Slovenia and there are plenty of other snowy activities to be enjoyed in the region.
As well as the traditional dog-sled competition, there are also races for cross-country skiers pulled by only one or two dogs.
The race is organised by the Italian and Slovenian Musher and Dog-Sled Federations and International Mushing Sleddog School.
It will be held over the first weekend of February next year.
